On Saturday, Madison residents will get to see big plans becoming reality in the Hogan YMCA at the first-ever Community Hard Hat Tour Day.  The new YMCA facility in Madison on Hughes Road, across from the post office, is slated to be completed in November.

Heart of the Valley YMCA President Scott Mounts will personally lead 30-minute tours of the building and grounds from 8:30 a.m. to noon that day. He is looking forward to showing the $15 million facility off to potential new members.

The Hogan YMCA is 78 percent complete and scheduled to open Nov. 1, so the facility is still very much a construction zone. There could be work going on the day of the tours, and hard hats are a must, said Mounts. So is a relaxed dress code, yet one with safety in mind.

Among some of the many features in the new Y will be an indoor climbing tree, the teen hangout with juice bar, the pirate's cove featuring a pirate ship for water play, the state-of-the-art fitness center and racquetball courts.

The entrance to the Hogan YCMA grounds is from the east side of Hughes Road just south of the CSX railroad tracks and adjacent to Stratford Square subdivision. Participants may drive through the site gates and park in the open areas to the left. Areas where heavy equipment may be working should be avoided.

Preregistration for the tours is required, because tour group size is limited. Reservations may be made by e-mailing events@ymcahuntsville.org.

Madison's Hogan Family YMCA is just three months from opening its doors, and tidbits surfacing about the flagship facility are exciting considerable buzz in the community. There's talk about the indoor climbing tree, the teen hangout with juice bar, the pirate's cove featuring a pirate ship for water play, the state-of-the-art fitness center and racquetball courts.

On July 24, Madison residents will get to see big plans becoming reality in the Hogan YMCA at the first-ever Community Hard Hat Tour Day.

Heart of the Valley YMCA President Scott Mounts will personally lead 30-minute tours of the building and grounds from 8:30 a.m. to noon that day. He is looking forward to showing the $15 million facility off to potential new members.

"This is the first opportunity for Madison residents to see what we have to offer," Mounts said. "Hosting them at the Hogan Y will give us the best venue to answer questions that they may have."

The Hogan YMCA is 78 percent complete and scheduled to open Nov. 1, so the facility is still very much a construction zone. There could be work going on the day of the tours, and hard hats are a must, said Mounts. So is a relaxed dress code, yet one with safety in mind.

"This is a construction site, so wear comfortable 'closed-foot' shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dusty," Mounts said. "Access to the site is unpaved gravel and dirt for the most part, so if it is wet, there will be mud getting on your vehicle and shoes."
