BJHS choral groups take top places in national competition

The Bob Jones High School choral music students racked up some top places at the National Choral Competition in Atlanta last week. According to choral director Randall Fields, of the three categories they entered, Bob Jones won two first place awards and one second place award.

There were 39 schools competing from all across the US.

The BJHS Patriot Singers won first place in the concert choir category, the BJHSBel Canto won first place in the vocal jazz category, and the BJHS Women’s Chorale won second place in the women’s chorus category.

The choral groups from Bob Jones also won the most prestigious award offered to a choral music program, the Choral Sweepstakes Award for highest combined points of any choral program at the festival.

“Additionally, based on our scores and recommendations of the adjudicators, our Patriot Singers and Women’s Chorale received invitations to perform in Carnegie Hall in 2011,” said Fields. “I am very proud of the way our students conducted themselves on and off the stage this weekend. I am convinced that we are at the best school and have the best students in the nation.”
